2019 FIBA World Cup schedule, scores: Watch Team USA basketball online, live stream, TV channels, dates, start times

Team USA is out of the running for medals at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China after their surprising loss to France in the quarterfinal stage. Champions in 2010 and 2014, the Americans were trying to become the first country to ever three-peat at the World Cup, but were unable to accomplish that feat. They will now have to settle for either seventh or eighth place after another disappointing loss at the hand of Serbia

France is on to the semis for just the third time in their country’s history, and they’ll face Argentina, who also pulled off an upset in the quarterfinals when they took down Serbia. The other semifinal matchup will feature Spain against Australia after those two countries each scored 12-point victories in their quarterfinal games.

The tournament, which was moved from 2018 to 2019 so that it wasn’t held on the same year as the FIFA soccer World Cup, has major implications for all of the 32 countries involved, as it serves as qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. There are seven teams — two from the Americas, two from Europe and one each from the Africa, Asia and Oceania regions — that will qualify for Tokyo based on their finish at the World Cup.
