The Las Vegas Aces (8-5) defeated the Chicago Sky (6-7) 90-82 on Tuesday afternoon. Las Vegas won the game by holding the Sky to just 4-of-18 shooting and blocking three shots while shooting 9-of-16 from the field themselves.
What’s even more remarkable is that the Aces turned up the defense even more in the last five minutes of the game. The Sky were unable to score a single field goal after Diamond DeShields made a jump shot with 5:36 left. Chicago missed its last 10 shots.
A’ja Wilson led Las Vegas in the final quarter, which started with a 72-all tie and was tied 80-all with five minutes remaining. Wilson scored 8 of her 16 points and blocked two shots to help the Aces prevail.
Liz Cambage also came up huge, scoring 6 of her 16 points and dishing 4 of her 7 assists in the fourth quarter. Kayla McBride also scored 16 points, all of them in the first three quarters.
Allie Quigley led the Sky with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 8 assists. Courtney Vandersloot added a season-high 12 assists and scored 6 points.
The Aces’ win is their second straight and keep them in third place. The Sky, however, are in free fall. They are now in eighth place after being in third just last week.
